Welcome to the blog, it seems we keep getting more and more Eagle Mountain runners. Thats good that your doing a consistent workout. Even if you feel they are meager miles, its still consistency you want to have. That will help you establish a good foundation for running! The speed comes with sticking to it. I did it!  I finally ran the full 3.25 (I always do a half mile cool down/speed walk).  It still feels off, but at least I did it!  Although I think most of my problem is that our shuffle is currently out of commission so I'm REALLY bored!

I actually did pretty well today.  I upped my speed to 6.7 and maintained it for the entire run.  Time constraints were the only reason I didn't go farther.  It was basically an extra run day anyways.

Nice pace my dear! be sure to take it easy and not go hurting your self. Most days should be pretty relaxed- you should only kick your bum 1 to 2 days a week :) I like that rule :)

I did something to my lower left leg last week, so I laid low over the weekend.  Today I went for slow and easy.  I ran for just under 2 miles, walked for .75 miles, jogged for .5, walked for .25, jogged for .25, then did my .5 mile cooldown.  My leg seemed to be better, just a little sore.

Did a mix of the weight loss program and speed walking.  Did 2.65 miles on the program (speed up to 6.3 and incline up to 6), then walked 1.5 miles at 5 mph.  The incline about did me in, but it felt good overall.  I'm hoping for a long, stead run tomorrow morning.

Today I decided to try and figure out my splits.  The first mile is always the slowest since it includes my warm-up walk.  My splits were 9:49, 9:11, and 9:00.  I ran 3.5 miles in 32:00 then did a half mile cool down.  I'm starting to feel like I'm finally finding my groove on this treadmill.  yeah for me!

More stomach issues kept me from running yesterday.  I think I see a specialist in my near future because this is getting ridiculous.  Today I'm feeling almost normal again, so I wanted to get a long run in.  Everything was done with an incline of 1.  I ran 2.15 miles (6.6 mph), walked .85 (5.0 mph), ran 1 mile, walked .25, ran .75, then did a .25 cool down.  The total time for everything was 52:30.

That is the one benefit of a treadmill. Once I set the speed I just run until time runs out.

Today is the first time I can think of that I used running as a stress reliever.   I've been so nervous about Adam's dad that I just needed to have something else to focus on for a little while.  Of course, all I thought about during the run was the surgery and how it's going and how much they have done already.  But still, I didn't turn to ice cream and chocolate, which is DEFINITELY a first.

Good luck converting Adam. I sugested that the guys in the family- or whomever would like to, put $100 in a pot and the first one to the top of their healthy weight range wins the money- or they use the money for all of them to go some where fun when they all get there ;)

I was able to get a better run in today.  Yesterday went to the birds, but at least I got some activity in.  Today I ran 3.5 miles in 31:44, did a faster walk for .5 mile (at 5), then did a quarter mile cool down.  It felt pretty good.

Weddings are of the devil when it comes to food.  I think I ate about a week's worth of desserts in a 90 minute period.  But, oh, was it worth it!  Anyways, today I tried to get back on track.  I ran 3.5 miles in 31:47, then walked .75 miles.  Total time was 40:54.  It felt good.  I just wish I had more time to stretch a little more sometimes.

My running has become completely spastic this month.  Due to another change in plans, I was actually able to fit in a run today.  My body is definitely letting me know it doesn't like such a long break between runs-especially when so much crap is consumed as well.  I ran 3 miles in 27:48, then walked a mile.  Hopefully a routine will materialize again in the next couple of weeks.

I'm really struggling with focus this week.  Today I did 3.25 in 30:34, but I walked the last .5 and took a couple of breaks.  Hopefully next week I'll get back on track with everything-I'm going to Denver for the weekend so will probably miss the next few days of running.

yeah, that's what I keep telling myself. The real problem is all the CRAP that I've been eating. I'm not used to it anymore and it shows. As for Denver-my cousin got a hold of me late Tuesday and asked if I would go with her to pick up some stuff. It's going to be a there and straight back kind of thing.

Well, I know what part of my problem is this week-sinus pressure!!!  I think the left side of my face is going to explode.  I hate allergies.  I decided to take it slow today so I ran 2 miles, walked 1, ran 1.5, then did a .5 cool down.  Total time was just over 50 minutes.

Better run than yesterday again-maybe I'm finally breaking my streak of a week of horrible runs every month.  I did have to stop and stretch for a little bit because the arch of my right foot was hurting a little bit.  Ran 3.25 in 29:36, then did my cool down.  Although I definitely don't love running, I can't deny that it's been a sanity saver this month!

I didn't really feel like a big run today, so I ran a mile, walked .75, ran 1.25, then did a .5 cool down.  My total time was 35:26.  There were a few pauses courtesy of Provo City and a 2 year old that thinks he'll whither away and die if he's not constantly eating, but it was still a decent run overall.

I think I need to really focus on stretching throughout the day instead of just when I'm running.  My hamstrings are feeling tight and my heels are bothering me off and on when I run.  I spent an extra 10 minutes stretching today, so hopefully that helps.  I ran 3.5 miles in 32:01 with a couple of pauses for stretching, then did my cool down.

I took the weekend off and just tried to stretch my left calf and tailbone a lot.  Today I squeezed in a run on my way to the chiropractor.  Serious issues with the tailbone-even Dr. Clifford noticed it.  He said basically that all my flexers were completely out and my symmetry is non-existent right now.  Sooooo, I'm supposed to spend extra time stretching morning and night and go back on Friday to finish the adjustment.  Man, what a difference it's already made though!

 Anyways, I've decided that I'm pushing a little too much in the speed department and that might be at least partially causing some of my recent issues, so I slowed back down a little bit and it felt better.  I ran 3.25 in 30:34 then did a .5 mile cool down.  I did pause a couple of time to stretch.  Hopefully this all goes away soon!

I slowed down to 6.5 for my speed and I think it's helping.  My legs still feel tight, but the extra stretching is helping with that as well.  I ran 3.25 miles in 30:35, then did a longer walk for a cool down.  My tailbone is beyond tight still.  The running is helping it relax enough so I CAN stretch though.

Ok, either I've inhaled WAY too much sawdust this past week or I have a serious chest something or other.  I am having issues breathing last night and today.  As a result, my legs pooped out on me, so I decided to go with the flow.  I ran 1.3 miles, then walked a while, then ran a little more, then walked the rest of the way.  I paused twice to get some extra stretching in as well.  I think my time was 34ish minutes.

After eating way too much candy filling easter eggs last night, I felt that I needed to at least try for some miles today.  It was better than yesterday, but that's about all I can say.  I think all the extra stretching is finally loosening up my tailbone, which is great.  I ran 1.5 miles, then interchanged walking and running for the rest of the way.  My entire abdomen hurts from coughing yesterday and my voice is almost completely gone, but I think I'm getting over the hump of whatever this is.  I did 3.5 miles in 34:30, and my total time was 43ish.

It took me until last night to realize that I ran a 10k last Thursday!!  Okay, I was slightly short, but it's close enough for me!  Yippee!!!!!  I've been told I'm not allowed to run anymore until my doctor okay's it though, so I'll be sticking to walking and a slow jog until then (hopefully sometime this week).  Today I only did 3 miles and my total time was 34:45.  It felt okay, but I had to resist the urge to go faster.  I really hope I can get into the doctor soon!

After all the crap comfort food I've consumed this week, I decided to at least start walking again.  I'm pretty sure the worst of it is over and I'm feeling the change of diet from this week.  It felt good to do something other than sit around and be exhausted.  I went pretty slow.  I ran for 2.50 miles, varying between 5.8 and 6.5, and walked between 4.5 and 5.1 for the rest of it.  I really need to stretch more and get back to the chiropractor.  Maybe I can finally get my tailbone back where it belongs.  Total time was 43:37.  Definitely a downer week.

I'm back!  Today felt like a really good run.  A few spots of tightness, but so much better than last week.  I ran 3.25 miles in 30:37, then did a .75 mile cool down-with no breaks even!  I'm finally feeling like I'm getting control of my body back.  Hopefully that means control of the emotions follows suit!  I'm still trying to keep it easy though.  I'm really hoping this is an indicator of what the rest of the week will be!

Pretty good today.  I got a phone call about 1.25 miles into the run and it lasted a while so I kind of started over again.  I ran 3.75 (total) miles in 36:31, then did a .75 mile cool down.  My heels have been really tight this week, so I've been trying to stretch them as much as possible and right before I go to bed at night.  I think it's starting to help.

My knees have really been bothering me the last week, mainly my left knee.  I had a physical last Tuesday and they were of no help at all.  Apparently my appointment was with a nurse, not a doctor, so the response I got to all my general questions was, "Well, I don't do that so I don't know."  Wow.  Thanks for all the help and pointers.

 I decided to give it a go today and it went pretty well.  I ran 3.25 miles in 31:10, then did a .75 mile cool down.  My knee bothered me a little bit, but it wasn't major pain and so far it feels okay.

Yeah, so running didn't work out so well yesterday.  Tuesday night I participated in a skit for enrichment and portrayed a little kid running after their mom over and over-on my knees across the gym floor.  My left knee did NOT appreciate the abuse.  About .15 miles in it started to throb so I ditched the effort.

Today I decided to try again.  I made it 1.5 miles before my knee started bothering me, so I switched to walking instead and that felt much better.  Total time for 3.25 miles was 35:06.  Hopefully my knee will be all better tomorrow!

I think taking a week off helped a lot.  My knee bothered me and ached a little bit, but I took the run really slow and easy so it never got too bad.  I did 3 miles in 29:06, then tapered off to a 4.0 walk for my cool down.  I'm going to try icing my knee for a little bit and see if that will help with soreness the rest of the day.  It felt good to be doing something again.

My knee was sore yesterday, but felt great this morning when I woke up.  I decided to try running again today and it felt about the same as yesterday.  I ran .5 miles going 6.4 mph, then tapered down with each lap.  I ran 3 miles in just under 30 minutes, then walked for another 10 minutes.  Iced my knee down again and I think I'm not going to run tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

No running today, but I did finally make it to my chiropractor-oh the perpetual bliss he brings to my life!!!!  I FINALLY got my back to adjust after being out for almost two months and it feels GREAT again!!  I also had him take a look at my knee and said it was classic alskrjawoeifnadlsn something or other.  Basically, because my back was so out for so long and I kept running, it made my left hip muscle tense up, which made the outer quad muscle cramp up, which pulled my knee cap over to the outside of my knee, which left the tendon underneath exposed and irritated.  How's that for cause and effect???  Fortunately, it's not serious and I think I've figured out how to get the stretch in to fix it.  He gave me the green light to run however I want to as long as I stretch the outer quad muscle every day.  Yippee for me!!!

Felt pretty good again today.  I played volleyball for two hours yesterday after not playing for the last 7 months.  Needless to say, I can now tell you every muscle not used for running.  I almost didn't run today, but felt sick and decided if I was going to feel miserable I should at least run some more so I wouldn't feel guilty when I go to an ice cream party tonight.  I slowed it down a little when my knee started to ache, but by the end it felt great.  Ran 3.25 miles in 30:04, then did .5 miles at a speed walking pace of 5.3 mph, then a .25 mile cool down.  Lots of stretching and some ice and I'm mostly recovered!

Since my knee has been bothering me more this week, I tried a new method of running.  I did a .25 warm-up walk, ran 1.25 miles at 6.4 mph. then tapered down one notch for every .25 miles.  I ended up running 4.25 miles in 43:00, then did a .5 mile cool down.  My knee popped a little in the stretching afterward and now it feels great.  I think I might start doing this kind of run whenever I have the time to.  It felt great and I didn't feel tired at all when I was done.

Third time's a charm, right?  I hope this works:  Did the same thing as yesterday-my hamstrings were sore!  It felt good though.  One nice thing is that my knee isn't bothering me at all.  I thought a back issue was causing my problem this whole time, but last week I had an amazing massage at my chiropractor's and discovered it's actually my upper glutes!  It felt like she was using razor blades instead of hands.  Since then, I've modified my stretching and I think it's helping a ton.  So far I haven't had to ice my knee-keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!

Today felt much better than yesterday.  I ended up feeling good enough to run longer than I thought I would.  The foam roller is getting down to just a specific spot that kills-yeah!  I did 1 lap walking with weights, walked 2 laps, jogged 2 miles, did 1 more lap with weights, then did a 1 lap cool down.  Total time was 35:52.

I actually slept last night!  For the first time in over a month I wasn't waking up every 20 minutes because I couldn't breathe.  I think the cold is almost over, thank goodness!  The cough is still annoying, but I'll take it over the clogged but dripping nose any day.  Since I felt better today I tried another approach to the run.  Did .25 mile warm up, jogged 1.25 miles at 6.0 mph, then took it down a notch every lap until I ran a total of 2.9 miles.  Then I did a .6 mile cool down.  Total time was 38:09.

Today was my best run in a while.  I have discovered that I have to take a potty break so I can keep running though-the baby really likes to bounce on my bladder and it doesn't help with the run.  Did a .25 mile warm-up, jogged 1.25 miles, took a potty break, jogged 1.50 miles at 6.1 mph, then did a .5 mile cool down.  Total time was 36:34.

Didn't go running today, but we did take the kids on their very first hike to Stewart Falls.  The kids did much better than we expected for the most part-the girls didn't complain at all on the 2 miles in, and on the 2 miles back they just slowed down a little, but never really complained.  I'm definitely feeling the hike, but it was totally worth it!  The kids had a blast and we made some fun memories.

Feeling okay today.  My left calf muscle is mad at me for some reason, so I didn't get nearly the jogging distance I wanted.  I did go a little further on the walking though-trying to walk out the calf muscle.  Maybe I just need to eat more bananas.  Did .20 mile warm-up, jogged 1.55 miles, then walked 2 miles with the speed varying between 4.6 and 5.1 mph.  Total time was 43:10.  Working on stretching the calves for the rest of the day.

I was a little leery about running today.  I did some extra stretching and used the foam roller on my left calf-talk about PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I rolled it out for about 10 minutes, then thought I'd give the run a shot.  It went great!  No knee problems and the calf felt just fine.  Did a .25 mile warm-up, jogged 2.85 miles, then did a .5 mile cool down.  I didn't even need to have a potty break!  Total time was 37:10.  Don't know if I'm running tomorrow-I have my ultrasound at 10 am, so we'll see if I fit the run in beforehand.

After serious issues with my calf last week, my chiropractor suggested laying off using it too much for a few days.  He said I pulled the muscle behind my calf and had me do some ultrasound therapy on it.  I think it really helped.  I've been rolling it and stretching it a lot too.  Today I decided to give it a go, and it worked for the most part.  Toward the end I started feeling the calf again, so I shaved off a little of the run and just walked the rest of the time.  Did a .25 warm-up, jogged 1 mile, took a potty break, jogged 1.25 miles, then walked .5 miles.  Total time was 31:31.

I really hope that whatever I did to piss off my left leg goes away.  My quads started hurting yesterday for no reason at all.  My chiropractor suggested I start doing some intense massage therapy on my back/upper hip muscles.  I think I might take his advice this week.

The headaches don't seem to want to go away.  The tension in my head, neck, and shoulders is getting ridiculous.  I WANT MY IBUPROFEN!!!!  I'm starting to think maybe it's how I'm stretching my neck and shoulders, so I'm attempting a whole new level of stretching this week.  No matter where I am, I'm trying to stretch and work my neck and shoulders.  If this doesn't help, I don't know what will-the heating pad and naps aren't really working for me, and tylenol makes it worse.

On a nicer note, my run today was alright.  My right calf is feeling kind of tight-another reason to revamp the stretching.  Did .25 mile warm-up, jogged 1.35 miles, walked .4 miles, jogged 1.25 miles, then did a .5 mile cool down.  Total time was 39:36.

I think the stretching is making a difference.  I didn't have a massive headache in the afternoon for the first time in almost 6 weeks yesterday!  Yippee!!!!!  My calves are feeling mostly back to normal too.  The run went really well today.  I upped the speed a little bit and I think my body liked it better than the jogging-my breathing felt more natural and I went farther than I have in a while.

Definitely better than yesterday.  My calves and the arches of my feet still hurt, but I think that's more a vitamin issue than anything else-bananas here I come!  Something is going on with the right side of my stomach.  I'm still trying to figure out what.  We took Tyson to the zoo yesterday for his birthday, so I did a lot more walking than originally planned.  It made me realize that I'm gonna be the dork wearing tennis shoes with everything at DisneyWorld next week-my back was sore!!  Headache came on in the afternoon, but it wasn't as bad as I was gearing up for which was very nice.

Ok, running in Florida is miserable.  After walking around DisneyWorld for 5 days, my shins, calves, and bum were so tight I couldn't even stretch very well, so I ran on our down day so I could stretch more.  It felt like I was going to die.  Between the humidity and the heat it was much worse than I anticipated.  I did it though-go me!  I'm ready to get back into the swing of things now that we're back.  I'm guessing I walked at least 15 miles at the parks.

Whatever was wrong yesterday must have been a bug-thankfully a very small one!  I decided to give running another try this morning and it felt MUCH better!  I did a lot of massaging with the foam roller yesterday and it's definitely working out some kinks in my back and hips.  My feet still ache a little when I walk at the end of the run, so I'm trying to stretch my calves better and wear better shoes throughout the day.

 Did .25 mile warm-up, jogged 2 miles at 6.0, walked .25 miles, jogged 1 mile at 6.1, then did a .5 mile cool down.   Total time was 41:56.  I'll probably be switching to more walking than running over the next couple of months.  Although as long as my belly does hurt, I'll probably keep jogging as long as I can.

This has been the weirdest week for running.  Today was one of those days that my body couldn't decide what it wanted to do.  For the first 1.5 miles, it varied from walking to jogging to taking a break to calves hurting to stomach hurting in different degrees.  After that I jogged 1.5 miles and it felt great, although I did go slower than usual to be safe.  Then I did a slower cool down than usual.  I think my legs haven't recovered from all the walking in flip flops in Florida yet, so tomorrow will be a day of rest for my legs.  I'll try again on Saturday, or maybe even wait until Monday.  Total time was 38:25.

Squeezed in a little bit of a run today-and actually jogged most of it!  My stomach is going through some serious growing pains lately-I swear this little girl is trying to double in size every couple of days.  All I ever think about anymore is what I'm going to eat next.  It felt good to get some exercise in though.

It seems like my best runs are the days that getting started is the hardest.  I've been so tired lately that it feels twice as hard to get going with exercise.  Today I figured I would do a little bit of walking and that was it.  Once I got going, I found myself wanting to go faster and further.  It's interesting-jogging seems to hurt/bother me a lot less than walking does.

Did a .40 mile warm-up at 4.5 mph, jogged 2.6 miles at 5.8 to 5.9 mph (with a break to stretch out my calves), then did a .5 mile cool down a little slower than usual.  Total time was 38:12.  I really hope I can keep forcing myself to do something. I know it's helping me to get the stretching in.

I've been banished from running-25% by me, 75% by Adam.  Yesterday my legs and stomach were not nice to me and I started to spot just enough to call it spotting.  When Adam heard about it, he told me that he forbids me from running anymore.  The way my feet and calves have been feeling I didn't argue too much.  

Now I'm trying to figure out a way to keep some form of exercise in-I'm thinking something like water aerobics or stationary bike or something like that.  I might try walking once a week, but my feet just don't like me after a good run.  They felt like they were at least three times their normal size, but didn't really look swollen.  It's all very weird, but not worth doing anything that will hurt our itty bitty.  So we'll see what I get in over the next three months.

The final nail in my coffin today-a visit to the chiropractor.  He was able to squeeze me in this morning, and it felt sooooooo FABULOUS!  One of the best adjustments I've had I think.  On the down side, when we talked about my jogging he said that he definitely agreed with Adam and one step further and told me I shouldn't play volleyball anymore either.  With only one game and a tournament left, that bites the big one!  Apparently I've strained a muscle in my lower back, which explains my very uncomfortable last 5 days or so.  I think I might have to find solace in a 20 below chocolate shake from the coffee shop next to our house......
